about the artist
Alasdair Urquhart is an established fine artist living with his family in Exeter, Devon. He is a thoughtful philosophical man. He integrates his spiritual and emotional responses to subjects into his work, providing a freshness and vibrance to his paintings. He believes his art should communicate important things about life to everyone by holding up a 'mirror' to reflect people, their actions and situations.
Born and
educated in Scotland he went to Dundee College of Art finishing his
postgraduate studies in 1979. He won scholarships from the British
Council to Budapest Fine Art Academy, and the Elizabeth Greenshield
scholarship twice to Canada.
He has
been exhibited at the Scottish Royal Watercolour Society, the Royal
Watercolour Society, and the Royal Institute in London, and also, in
numerous galleries in towns across England, Scotland and Wales. His work
has also been exhibited and in private collections in Europe, America,
Canada and Japan.
He
received sponsorship from Rosenstiel’s fine art publishers, London, a
residency at Grizedale in Cumbria, and has had his paintings published by
Medici and Parnassus.
The
subjects of his paintings vary hugely and give great pleasure as they are
full of unique visual energy that are evocative and yet restful. He works
in oils, mixed media, watercolours, and pastels.
